WAITING WITH HOPE, by RM

~Waiting With Hope, by RM
"According to an ancient Chinese proverb, an invisible and infinite red string ties together two people who are destined to meet. The string may cross or tangle, but never break"

"School bullying statistics in the United States show that about one in four kids in the U.S. are bullied on a regular basis...When it comes to verbal bullying, this type of bullying is the most common type with about 77 percent of all students being bullied in some way or another including mental bullying or verbal abuse. These types of bullying can also include spreading rumors, yelling obscenities, or other derogatory terms based on an individual's race, sexual orientation, religion, ect. Out of the 77 percent of those bullied, 14 percent have a severe or bad reaction to the abuse according to recent school bullying statistics...School bullying statistics also reveal that teens aged 12-17 believe they have seen violence increase at their schools. In fact, these numbers show that most violent altercations between students are more likely to occur on school grounds than on the way to school for many teens" (bullyingstatistics.org, 'School Statistics')

Bullying is no doubt one the biggest, if not the biggest, problem in our education system today. Although there are steps being taken and made to prevent this epidemic, there is by far not enough. Many of the victims are children and teens. To allow this to happen against the youngest of society is an atrocity, and has to be stopped.

However, we are finding more and more now a days that when the victim takes action against his or her predators, they are the ones who are dealt the punishment. Many times when this happens, the adults around the the incidents and situations refuse to interfere with the bullies, instead taking action against the victim.

I've been a victim of bullying for pretty much all my life, and have seen first hand the damages and injustice being committed. Teachers don't take action against the bullies even if they are standing right there. Parents of the victim are also not allowed to confront the bullies of their child. In September of 2010, James Jones of Seminole County Florida was arrested for confronting the kids who bullied his disabled daughter. He said he felt helpless for a month while her classmates relentlessly bullied and harrased her. His daughter, who was hospitalized and put on suicide watch, had unwrapped condoms thrown at her, derogatory names hurled from other students along with hits, taunts, and even pinching.

The fact that this had gone on for a month is unacceptable in any situation. What's even sadder is that more kids like Jone's daughter share similar stories that are ongoing.

This is for the kids who know what it's like to be tortured by bullies and the pain of it. Sometimes, this mental pain can be fatal and drive children to their own deaths. Many, understandably, feel alone and isolated, not mention without power or control in their lives. They dread another day of just simply living, and begin to lose hope. As time goes on, their hope lessens until they have none. And when you have no hope for anything, what is the point in surviving?

Remember to never lose hope even if you have nothing else
