AROUND THEIR NECK, by Tessa - Louise Haines

Verse 1:
Type a message with a hidden meaning,
press send with a simple click.
Can't express any of your feelings,
an emoticon: a shallow image.
Slamming close your laptop,
tears behind a screen,
'cause you're sick of the backdrop,
yeah it don't mean a thing.

Chorus:
Tell me why, tell me how,
did I ever deserve this?
Let me cry, let me shout.
And the whole world knows the truth, it's
the saddening fact that around the globe
you're logging on, and you just can't cope.
Why do people find out things they shouldn't know?

Verse 2:
Dressed for the day, you comb your hair.
The makeup lies abandoned on your desk.
You're feeling brave, but a little scared,
about the stuff that they say you confessed.
Rumours slither through your grasp,
and laughter rings out all around.
A flower withers when you gasp.
The choking tear the only sound.

Chorus:
Tell me why, tell me how,
did I ever deserve this?
Let me cry, let me shout.
And the whole world knows the truth, it's
the saddening fact that around the globe
you're logging on, and you just can't cope.
Why do people find out things they shouldn't know?

Verse 3:
Just go home. Take that rope.
Tell them why, tell them how,
did they ever deserve it?
When you sit at your desk.
Another ties a rope around their neck.

~Around Their Neck, by Tessa - Louise Haines
"This was inspired by cyber-bullying and it's the extreme effects it can have on teenagers, such as suicide. This song/poem describes the concealment of cyber-bullying as it's confined to computers, phones and other devices. I wanted to express this in the lyrics, and how the mask of cyber-bullying can eventually strip away someone's well-being."
